Ajay Arts is a heritage art studio devoted to the preservation of Indian miniature painting, one of the most refined classical art forms of India. The studio is founded and led by National Award recipient Ajay Kumar Garg, whose life’s work reflects exceptional discipline, devotion and mastery of traditional miniature techniques.
Born in Dholpur, Rajasthan, Ajay Kumar Garg showed an early inclination towards art. His natural talent was recognized and encouraged under the guidance of a court artist from Dholpur, Shri Sua Lal, who laid the foundation for his journey into traditional Indian painting.
He later received formal training in classical Rajput and Mughal miniature styles under Asha Devi. Through years of disciplined practice, he mastered the demanding techniques of preparing natural pigments, treating handmade paper, and executing precision line work that can take weeks or months to complete in a single composition.
Despite facing hearing and speech challenges due to a childhood medical incident, Ajay Kumar Garg continued his artistic journey with remarkable dedication. His paintings became his primary language of expression, reflecting patience, devotion and inner discipline.
His work is admired for its extreme detailing and fine craftsmanship. He is known for using a single hair brush and magnifying lens to achieve remarkable precision. He has also created rare miniature artworks on grains of rice, demonstrating exceptional control and mastery.
In 2004, he was honored with the National Award, presented by the President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, in recognition of his contribution to traditional Indian miniature painting.
Every artwork created at Ajay Arts is entirely hand painted using handmade paper, natural mineral pigments and traditional fine brushes. Each creation is a one of a kind original, inspired by Indian mythology, royal court scenes, devotional traditions and classical life compositions.
